Located in the southeastern suburb of Kunming, the Guandu Ancient Town is one of the famous historical and cultural towns in Kunming. The gate of Guandu Ancient Town (Da Pai Fang) is located 8 kilometers southeast of Kunming downtown, covering an area of 17 square kilometers. Guandu used to a small fishing village near the Dianchi Lake, it gradually became the biggest town around Dianchi at Tang and Song Dynasty. As one of the few ancient towns in Kunming, the rise and fall of Guandu Ancient Town is closely related to Kunming.

There is a culture center in Guandu Ancient Town, it is become an important cultural protection center for Kunming and even Yunnan Province. The Culture Center of Guandu District Kunming City is a two-floor building with two different museum in.

Guandu Folk Museum

Guandu Folk Museum is mainly present the classics folk customs that have passed or are disappearing in Guandu area and Kunming. The folk paintings of Guandu exhibited here vividly demonstrate the Guandu style of life. In addition, the handicraft workshop on the first floor also displays pottery, embroidery, tie-dye and other intangible handicrafts.In here you can find the most traditional and classical folk culture of Guandu.

Guandu Dian Opera and Lantern Opera Study Hall

Dian Opera and Lantern Opera are local operas in Kunming, Yunnan Province. They are the traditional cultural treasures of Guandu District. They have a long history and distinctive local characteristics. There are the main carrier of community cultural activities.

Guandu Erkuai Study Hall

Erkuai is one of the famous snacks in Yunnan. It originated in Kunming  in 1276. The production of traditional Erkuai is very particular, mainly including rice selection, soaking rice, steaming, drying, soaking and other processes.

What is the difference between Guandu Erkai and other Erkuai? Does it really need a school for study how to make it? The answer is yes. Nowadays, it is more common to use machine to make Erkuai, but  handmake technique is the ancient production method. In order to make sure the technique will not be disappear the study hall has founded in 2011.
