The Art Exhibition of Dunhuang Murals in Yunnan

Mogao Grottoes, commonly known as Qianfo Caves, are located in Dunhuang city, Gansu Province. It was first built in the pre-Qin period (366). Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is the largest and oldest Buddhist cave temple in China, it is also the most comprehensive, exquisite Buddhist art treasure house in the world. There are 735 caves, 45,000 square meters of murals, and mud the quality of 2415 statues.

The art exhibition of Dunhuang Murals in Yunnan hold in Kunming World Horticultural Expo Garden China Pavilion. The exhibition follow the time order of Dunhuang Murals development. In this exhibition, there are more than 60 exquisite murals in Dunhuang Grottoes, two classic 1: 1 replica caves and a group of copied scriptures and silk paintings from Tibetan scripture caves. In addition, the exhibition will also use VR technology to give tourists an immersive experience.

 

 

 

Highlights

1. The Art Exhibition of Dunhuang Murals for the first time uses the "Sound Listening Guide" intelligent voice navigation system. It not only has official detailed explanations of all mural exhibits, but also the exhibition tour recommended by the head officer of Dunhuang Academy.  

 

2. China had its own constellation system as early as the Zhou Dynasty(1046 B.C-256 B.C.). Today's "twelve constellations" were named as "Zodiac " during the Babylonian period. They were introduced to Greece and then transferred to India. At six century, the Zodiac came to China from India with the Buddhist scriptures. So the Dunhuang murals has the record of the Zodiac constellations. In this exhibition tourists can find the differences of zodiac between the old time and now.

 

3.To know the Dunhuang culture.  The Dunhuang culture has gone through 10 dynasties in Chinese history, several generations of painters and craftsmen, and devoted more than 1600 years of hard work. There are 735 caves from the pre-Qin to Yuan dynasties, 45,000 square meters of murals, and 2415 clay-colored sculptures. It is a important sources to know the Buddhist.
