During the development of Yunnan’s history, the Bai ethnic minority mainly living in Dali in the northwest of Yunnan have created brilliant culture. E.g., the Family Duan established the Kingdom of Dali famous both in China and abroad.
The religious beliefs of the Bais are mainly Buddhism and Benzhu (Patron God), and the Erhai lake area has been nicknamed “the Kingdom of Incenses” since ancient times. The Bais are especially known for their architectural art, sculptural art and painting art. E.g., the Scroll by Zhang Shengwen during the Dali Kingdom (938-1253) period can completely be a rival with the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival.
