Toiling and multiplying among the rugged areas of the lofty, verdant Ailao Mountains in the south of Yunnan, the Hani ethnic minority mainly farm on mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. They traditionally live on farming, especially known for farming on terraced fields.
In the Hani-inhabited areas, layers of terraced fields distribute along mountains from bottom to top. The Hani terraced fields in Honghe have been listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by the UNESCO.
