Most of Yunnan’s Yao ethnic members live in high mountains where they construct herringbone houses with bamboos, woods, bricks and earth. In Yunnan, the Yao people have several branches such as Red Yao, Sha Yao and Daban Yao, mainly living in the south and southeast of Yunnan including Xishuangbanna, Honghe and Wenshan etc. 

Yao ethnic girls wear various colourful headwears, some of which look like pagodas, some like flying phoenix, some like sailboats, and some like flying eaves, full of creativeness.
