Hui Ethnic Minority

Most Hui ethnic members live in Honghe Prefecture in the south of Yunnan. For the Hui ethnic minority in Yunnan, what is most famous is “one mosque, one man, and one uprising”. “One mosque” refers to the Great Mosque in Shadian first constructed in the early Ming Dynasty; it is also the biggest mosque in the southwest of China. “One man” refers to Zheng He who initiated the Marine Silk Road in the Ming Dynasty. And “one uprising” refers to the uprising led by Du Xiuwen as part of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Uprising in the Qing Dynasty.
