Most Mongolians in Yunnan mainly live in Tonghai County in Central Yunnan, and they are the descendants of those who migrated to Yunnan with Kublai Khan on the southern expedition to conquer the Dali Kingdom (938-1253). As far as Tonghai is mentioned, what is well-known is the Xiushan Mt which is famous for “three wonders”, namely: the cypress tree of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), fir tree of the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), and the magnolia tree of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). But as for the Mongolian culture in Yunnan, the best place to explore is Xingmeng Mongolian Village.
