Wooden Drum Festival of Wa People

A wooden drum is deemed a sacred instrument and a talisman of the Wa Minority. Every Wa village has at least one wooden-drum house. The Wooden Drum Festival appears as one of the grand sacrificial events of the Wa people.

 

Activities for the festival include Wooden-Drum Beating (Lamudu), Wooden-Drum Dance (Muguwu) and Making Sacrifice to Wooden Drums etc, all exhibiting profound ethnic cultural facts of the Was. At the same time, the ethnic religion, singing and dancing, culinary arts, costumes, etiquettes and folk customs etc of the Wa people find full expression during the Wooden-Drum Festival.
