Heijing ancient town

Heijing ancient town is located in Lufeng County of Chuxiong Prefecture. 200 km from Kunming or 75 km from Chuxiong City, the small town was known for its salt production which in turn brought it prosperity in the past.

In the Ming and Qing dynasties, the salt industry of Heijing was in its heyday. Horse caravans and salt dealers traveled to Heijing frequently making Heijing a melting-pot of different cultures thus giving birth to the peculiar Salt Culture of Heijing.

Some of the ancient architectures and historical sites include: the Compound of Family Wu, Dalong Shrine, Heiniu Salt Well and Ancient Salt Workshop etc.

Compound of Family Wu

Originally constructed during 1837-1858, it is laid out with novelty and decorated exquisitely. The pavilions and cloisters are all connected to make one feel entering a labyrinth.

Dalong Shrine

As the masterpiece of the ancient architectures in Heijing, the shrine is designed in a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) style and comprises a gate, a main hall, wing rooms and an opera stage etc. What is the most impressive is a plaque hung on the ceiling of the main hall. On the plaque, one can find the inscription by Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), reading “Ling Yuan Pu Zhao” which was a royal praise for Heijing’s contributions to salt production.
